F is for Fear

vader in cloud cityIn Star Wars Edge of the Empire, the icy hand of terror grips the hearts of Fringer Crew as they brave impossibly dangerous threats not only to themselves, but to everything they hold dear. Fear is a specific function within Edge of the Empire with its own subset of rules, but precious little direction has been given in the beta release as to when to apply Fear and what types of events might be the cause of such undue stress. This chapter of Edge of the Empire Alphabet aims to help Galaxy Masters inject more fear and test the Fringer Crew’s Discipline through giving a wider variety and more over-the-top examples. These range from a small pang of doubt to an overwhelming sense of utter doom and despair.

To determine what horrifying sight the Fringer Crew witnesses, roll once (d10) on the Type column; or select the type of your choice. Use this selection to guide the design of your Heist or Encounter, adjusting the magnitude of Fear and the Discipline check difficulty from Easy to Impossible to fit the description of events that you, as Galaxy Master, are trying to convey. Galaxy Masters can also use this chart as a starting point for a new Heist or entire campaign, using an appropriately terrifying entity as the focal point for their design.
